School Advisory Council Minutes

In attendance: Erin Hadala, Gina Hadala, Wendy Hines, Jessica Hines, Nate DeLeon, Laura DeStasio, Jodi Latham, Robin Latham, Susan Stone, Dolphine Brown, Jerri Evans, Sherry Brock, Julya Kemp, Leya Kemp, Jim Wilfert, Laura Wilfert, April Cleary, Cindy Terwilliger, Brenda Vlach, Charlotte Higgins, Susan Burnett, Nancy Wiseman, Donna Keller, John Dockerty and Mike Bohnet

Call to Order: John Dockerty called the meeting to order at 7:05p.m.

Approval of minutes: January 16, 2007, minutes were approved and seconded.

Principal’s Report:

· Mr. Bohnet reviewed the events on the February calendar

· Progress reports were sent home with students on February 12

· FCAT Writes was today and preparation for the math, reading, and science tests in March continues

· Remind parents of Parent Connect availability

New Business

· Discussion about the possibility of moving the Spring Awards Ceremony to the daytime. There would be two separate assemblies, 9^th & 10^th and 11^th and 12^th

Guest Speaker

Susan Burnett from SPC presented various AA, AS, and certificate of completion programs available at SPC. The needs of the current workforce were discussed as well as job skill changes over the past 50 years. While there has been a shift from unskilled to skilled labor. The need for professional level remains constant at 20%. SPC also has a variety of Bachelor of Applied Science program. The opportunity for dual credit while in high school was also discussed.

Open Forum

· Nancy Wiseman gave an update on the PBS program at Dixie. PBS is now in grades 9 & 10. The program will be expanded into 11^th in the fall. Since implementation of the program referrals have dropped in excess of 45%.
