Minutes
In attendance: Joseph Freshley, Marcia Miller, Laura Wilfert, Jim Wilfert, Brenda Vlach, Dubravka Agatic, Leanna Potter, Cindy Potter, and Mike Bohnet
Call to Order: Mr. Bohnet called the meeting to order at 7:10. Mr. Dockerty was unable to attend the meeting. No introductions needed.
Approved minutes: Mr. Bohnet asked members to review the minutes from the March 10, 2009 meeting. Minutes approved.
Principal’s Report:
· AVID AP night was last week.
o The schedule for next year was discussed. There will be 9 new AP classes added. The following year there will be 2 new AP classes added, Spanish and French.
o Teachers will be required to have additional training this summer to teach the new classes.
o Counselors are available to give parents additional information about the new classes.
· Mr. Scott attended the Military Ball and reported it went very well.
· Tuesday night students auditioned to perform at graduation. It is Dixie’s version of American Idol. Only 3 seniors tried out.
· Mr. Bohnet spoke to Vanessa Quillao who won the Disney American Idol audition. Mr. Bohnet asked her about being in our chorus but because of her level of talent. She is paid for performing locally. Since she won the Disney audition she automatically gets a spot on American Idol. There is a chance that she might sing at her own graduation.
· Several sports are finishing up.
· Senior week is coming up which is always a good time for the students. Grad Bash and Senior Breakfast are also two events enjoyed by our seniors.
· Prom Promise is coming - trying to teach the students once again of the dangers of drinking and driving.
· Prom will be held May 9th at the Gulfport Casino.
· Mr. Bohnet advised that he attended a presentation by Derby Lane where four of Dixie’s student received a scholarship.

New Business:
· Mr. Bohnet asked Cindy Potter and Marcia Miller to discuss the progress of the Senior Party. At this point, there is still a lot to be done. At the PTSA meeting tonight things seem to be taking a positive direction.
· Ms. Agatic advised that her students will be going to MOSI and Sea World.
· In the fall Mr. Bohnet will ask the Education Foundation to attend a SAC meeting and explain to parents the scholarships that are available on foundations web-site.
· Mr. Bohnet advised that Mr. and Mrs. Wilfert’s daughters will be going to one week S4Tl camp this summer. It is a very unique experience. Students from all over the state will attend this camp.
Open Forum:
· Brenda Vlach advised that the night school is very busy at this time with students trying to make up classes so they can graduate.
· Mr. Freshley advised that he encourages his students to finish strong. It is close to the end of the year but not to give up.
· Ms. Miller advised that Dixie had four students receive the Doorways scholarship. The students will sign their contracts on Thursday, April 16th. There is a Doorways Celebration at Tropicana Field on Friday, April 17th. Each Doorways student was given two free tickets by the Education Foundation to attend a Rays game.
Next Meeting: May 12th will be the last SAC meeting for the year. Dinner will be served that night thanking everyone for supporting SAC this year.
